Record Booklets, Observations and continuous  provision

When a child starts at Fawley Day Nursery they will receive their own record book which will stay with them for the length of the time they are at nursery.

These records are regularly updated using the observations.   As a result of these observations, next steps are identified resulting in personalised planning , implementation of activities, further observations and planning.  There is a continuous cycle to ensure we capture all areas of development across a range of adult led and child initiated activities.

The journals are very popular with children and parents providing 'a story' of their development whilst in the setting.

Partnership with parents

The observation records and journals form the basis for discussion, reports and feedback on progress and achievements within the nursery setting.  It also opportunity for you and your child’s carers to work together to provide your child with play and learning activities supporting their development.

We have twice yearly parents evenings where you can discuss your child's progress and look at their records and examples of the things they do whilst at nursery. The information we gather from observations and records help us to plan appropriate activities for each child.

Parents are also invited to suggest ideas for activities on the planning sheet in reception, there are 'wow' sheets to share special events at home, the daily diary for under 2's to provide instant feedback on the day and the monthly newsletters in reception, by email or to read on the web site.
