Healthy eating at our nursery

Meal Times

The nursery employs a cook that prepares home made meals using freshly purchased products. The cook is expected to complete the basic food hygiene course and maintain exceptional standards of hygiene in the kitchen.

Children sitting down to eat lunch

The nursery meals start with morning snack starts at 09.00am. Typically this is a breakfast cereal with milk or toast and a choice of spreads. The nursery is however flexible and younger children that come in hungry will be given breakfast as soon as they arrive - by special request. This is followed by a two course hot lunch at 11.30 am and afternoon snack starts at 3.30. The menu is published weekly and the cook caters for all including vegetarians, special dietary requirements, allergies and weaning babies - a sample weekly daily menu including breakfast, lunch, mid-afternoon tea and optional late tea is attached. The children are encouraged to dish out their own meals and drinks and regularly make their own cakes and sandwiches at tea time. At 4.00 pm they are also offered freshly baked cakes, sandwiches , crackers and cheese or a biscuit. Parents of fussy eaters are amazed at how well their child develops an appreciation for all foods after some time at the nursery.
